A step-by-step masterclass on creating aesthetically striking and compliant product labels that capture customer attention.

A product label serves as the primary visual interface between your brand and the consumer. Creating a successful product label requires balancing aesthetic appeal with regulatory technical data in a clean millimeter layout. ### 1. Establishing Visual Hierarchy Consumer eyes scan product packaging in structured visual patterns. Organize layout elements effectively: - **Primary Focus (Brand & Product Name)**: Prominent headline typography positioned at the top or center of the label. - **Secondary Focus (Net Quantity & Features)**: Net contents, volume, and key product highlights legible according to labeling regulations. - **Tertiary Details (Barcodes & Manufacturer Info)**: Barcodes, ingredient declarations, batch codes, and regulatory markings aligned cleanly along side or bottom margins. --- ### 2. Bleed Area & Safety Margins Rotary die-cutting and thermal feed rolls exhibit up to ±1.5 mm mechanical feed tolerances. Prevent clipped text: - Keep all critical text and barcode symbols **at least 2.5 mm inside** physical die-cut borders. - Extend background colors or border lines fully to outer edge boundaries. --- ### 3. Typography & Font Selection Rules - **Sans-Serif Fonts**: Prefer legibility-focused typefaces such as Arial, Inter, Roboto, or Helvetica for small packaging labels. - **Minimum Font Sizes**: Maintain at least **5 pt** font size for regulatory warning text and ingredient lists. Ensure human-readable barcode numbers are at least **6 pt**. - **High Contrast**: Prefer dark text and barcode modules on a light background. Evaluate contrast on the final substrate and print process rather than relying only on the screen preview.
